One of the World’s Best Islands – Boracay, Philippines
I don’t know, but I believe everyone has a dream, a dream house, dream car, dream partner and, of course, a dream holiday destination. Philippines’ top holiday destination, one of the World’s Best Islands as awarded by some international travel magazines is Boracay.
I went to Boracay in 2017, before its closure for the major renovation. I believe it’s much more clean and impressive this time because of all the improvements undertaken. I can’t imagine how I felt the first time I set my eyes on the island. I saw photos of Boracay before but I wasn’t prepared of what I would see once I get my feet to this place.
Boracay is something a Filipino would always be proud of. The beach, the sea, and the vibe of a a top holiday destination are all captured by the Island, that I’m sure, you’ll have a nostalgic feeling once you leave the place.
I was mesmerized by the sights. I wondered how could this paradise turns out exactly what’s on the postcards. I bent down to touch the sand and frankly speaking, the beach is so fine, almost like a powder. I sat down and gazed at the horizon and the surroundings. I saw colorful sails, people swimming, sailing and windsurfing, children building sand castle by the beach with their parents, and some who just lie down on a beach towel, taking a nap. All of these have been in my head when I dreamt of my own holiday.
How to come to Boracay?
I booked a flight from Manila to Caticlan (Boracay) for PhP6,000.00 fare which is around $120-125.00. From Caticlan (Boracay) airport, I headed to the seaport which is just nearby. When I arrive at the seaport, I paid an environmental fee, a banca ticket going to Boracay Island, and a local fee, all at PhP175.00 or about $4.00. The banca ride is short from the seaport to Boracay which took only 15-20 minutes. Then, I took a tricycle at PhP25.00 fare, less than a dollar, if you’re alone, you’ll pay PhP150.00 or $3.00 for a special trip. I got to our hotel after some 15 mins.
Should you like to spend less, you can take a bus from Pasay to Batangas Pier, then take a ferryboat, which minimum fare is PhP1,500 or around $30.00. If there would be changes on the fees and fares, it would be minimal, I guess.
For your accommodation, it is best to book online in advance through booking apps (I relied on Agoda.com many times) for quality and affordable hotels and/or lodging houses. There are a lot of restaurants and shops around to buy your stuff, so don’t worry if you forgot a thing.
What to do in Boracay?
It is best to swim or just stroll around the beach early morning for the sunrise or in the afternoon at 4 pm to 6 pm to watch the sunset.
There are a lot of activities that you can do aside from just strolling on the beach and swimming, try scuba diving, boat tours, and kite boarding. You may also write a journal to record your day-to-day activities, a souvenir of all your memories in Boracay. Just enjoy!
My first trip to Boracay was in 2005. It is time to be back there once all are back to normal or sort of for safety.
